9/10/14 – Order of Operations DO NOW 1). -4 x 6 =2). 2 x 10 = 3). -3 x -5 = 4). 18 ÷ - 6 = 5). Write down: what is the rule for determing signs in multiplication and division?
2
What are we doing Today OBJECTIVE: WE WILL be able to solve equations using the order of operations ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally – remember PEMDAS! AP
3
Who can tell me who this is? AP
4
Here is PEMDAS AP Important Points: Go in this order M &D and then A & S are coequal! Go left to right!
5
Tips for Solving Correctly 1). Start of by numbering the operations 2). Rewrite the equation after each operation I want to see this on EVERY PROBLEM or there will be no credit! Example: 7 – 2 x 4 + (3 x 2) AP
6
Let’s Do These Together 1). 26 – 4 ÷ 2 = 2). 4 x 4 – (6 -2) = 3). 8 ÷ 2 x 4 = 4). -15 ÷ -3 + (4 x 2) = AP
7
Try These Independently 5). 8 – 2 x 6 + (9 -1) = 6). (10 – 2) x 2 x 4 = 7). 2 + 4 ÷ 2 x 4 =
8
Numbered Heads 1). Split into groups of 3. Choose team name. 2). A problem will come up on the screen. Everyone will work independently for one minute on this problem. 3). Then the team has 30 seconds to choose a group answer. 4). Correct teams win points& prizes from Mr. Nauen
9
Problem #1 – 5 Points 7). 2 + 4 ÷ 2 x -4 =
10
Problem #2 – 10 Points 8). (-4 + 14 ) – (2 x 6) x 2 =
11
Problem #3 – 10 Points 9). 9 ÷ 3 x 2 – 4 + 5 =
12
Problem #4 – 15 Points 10). 9 ÷ 3 x 2 – - 4 + 5 =
