6. British reaction: King George was infuriated….. Passed a series of laws called the “Intolerable acts” A direct attack on colonists rights and liberties.

7. Intolerable Acts Closed the port of Boston until colonists paid for the destroyed tea. Altered the Mass. Charter to ban town meetings. Replaced elected council with an appointed one. Increased governor's power. Protected British officials accused of crimes in the colonies from being tried by the colonist. Allowed British officers to house troops in private dwellings.

9. The Reactions British Stood firm The colonist forced unelected officials to resign. Colonists were ready to fight….Patrick Henry speech. 10. British/Colonist Both had spies keeping track of one another. British learned that the Mass. Militia was storing arms and ammunition. General Gage ordered troops to arrest Sam Adams and John Hancock and destroy supplies
