The expectations of the law RULE OF LAW The hallmark of a democratic society is the RULE OF LAW In a democracy no one can be above the law Laws are generally a reflection of the values of a society Protect basic human rights Promote fairness Resolve conflicts Promote order and stability Promote “desirable behavior” Represent the will of the majority Protect the rights of minorities
