Climate and location of Puerto Rico

Location of Puerto Rico Relative location vs. Absolute location https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDsVgnti8rs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyrbyOPYlfU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDsVgnti8rshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyrbyOPYlfU Relative location – locating a place in relation to another. Ex: Puerto Rico is located between the island of the Hispaniola and U.S Virgin islands. Ex: Write on a paper the relative location of any object in the classroom or place in the school and share it with the class.

Location of Puerto Rico Cartography - Is the study and art of making maps. Maps are visual models, or illustrations of a place. Absolute location - locating a place using the system of parallels and meridians. In order to draw the exact location of all countries in the world cartographers use a system of parallels or lines of latitude and meridians or lines of longitudes. Example: Puerto Rico’s absolute location is latitude 18.5 degrees north and longitude 66 degrees west.

EARTH AND ITS IMAGINARY LINES https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKT16DjHo_8&list=PLrUlxXs60wRjjnsS9O7UFhnbo21DLTDn0 Parallels = Latitude are horizontal lines that stretch around the earth from east to west Meridian = Longitude are vertical lines that run from North Pole to South Pole

Equator divides the Earth in 2 equal parts. Divides northern and southern hemispheres. It is define as 0 degrees of latitude. Greenwich Meridian or Prime Meridian Divides the planet into 2 hemispheres (Eastern and Western). It is define as 0 degrees of longitude. Lets play! Google: interactive games about earth latitude and longitudes

The Climate of Puerto Rico Puerto Rico’s location prevents the seasons. Climate varies across the planet because of the inclination of the Earth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l64YwNl1wr0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l64YwNl1wr0 Some regions in the planet do not receive as much sunlight as the others during some months of the year. Those who not receive direct sunrise all year long experiment seasons. They are located in the temperate zones.

The Seasons Only change in mid latitude or temperate zones. (between tropics and artic zone) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1cUEXmDXgc Changes on climate are slow and are divided in 4 seasons: Spring, Summer, fall and winter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZjpI6fgYSY

In Puerto Rico Season are not as different from each other. This because P.R is located in the tropical zone, where the sun shines all year long. However temperatures are: higher in the summer specially in July and August cooler in the winter mostly in January and February. In may to October we have rainy season. It rains more in the north because the Cordillera Central acts as a block that the humid air from the Atlantic Ocean.
