Elastic P E This is the stored energy of any stretched or compressed object. You can find the EP E of an object by taking the object’s stretch (x) and squaring it, then multiplying it by half of the constant that reflects the elasticity of the object. (k) EP E = 1/2k * x 2 (EP E =J, x=m, k=N/m) (J) = N/m * m 2

1.The elastic force constant of a spring in a toy is 550 N/m. If the spring is compressed 0. 12 m, compute the potential energy stored in the spring. = 3.96J 2.The elastic force constant of a rubber band is 2.76N/m. The rubber band is stretched 0. 45 m. Calculate the Elastic Potential energy of the rubber band. =.28J 3. An elastic force of 125 N/m is used to stretch a spring 0.33 m. Compute the potential energy stored in the spring. = 6.81J
