What Effect Does the Depth of the Seeds Have on the Height on the Plants? By Robbie MacInnes, Corey Sites, Elizabeth Austin, Iris Reyes By Robbie MacInnes, Corey Sites, Elizabeth Austin, Iris Reyes
2
How Experiment was Conducted b The first thing that was done was wicks were put on the bottom of each cell. Then fertilizer pellets and seeds were put in and covered with more soil. The seeds were then put on the watering system. In the experimental quad the seeds were placed in the center of the cell, and on the others the seeds were placed on the bottom of the cell. b The plants were observed every day in class. On day thirteen, The plants heights were measured height in mm. On day 21 the plants were pollinated with bees on sticks. b Finally on day 28 the plants were harvested. They were harvested by taking off the pods and taking out the seeds from each pod.
3
Control Variables b Amount of Seeds- We put three seeds in each cell. b Amount of Fertilizer Pellets- We also put three b Amount of Algae Squares- One in the watering system b Type of light- fluorescent 40 watts b Amount of light- 24 hours for 40 days b Type of soil- Unknown
4
Growth of Wisconsin Fast Plants Days 13-15 plants increased in height Days 15-21 the control group increased in height dramatically Days 21-24 plants kept growing in height water was taken off watering system Days 24-28 height decreased slightly
5
Average Number of Seeds Per Quad
6
Average Number of Pods Per Plant
7
Sources of Error b Water system b Lights b Age of seeds b Algae
8
Conclusions b Wisconsin fast plants need to have water 24 hours a day b They also need light 24 hours a day b Seeds grow taller when planted in the center of the cell not the bottom or the top of the soil
9
Recommendations to Improve Exterminations b Make sure plants are on the watering system at all times b Make sure the lights are the same b Make sure seeds are new
