Inference with Proportions Review Mr. Hardin AP STATS 2015

1-Proportion Confidence Intervals Verify the 3 conditions (use sample data for 3 rd ). Say you can use the normal model and give the mean (p hat) and standard error ( ) to create a 1-Proportion Z- Interval. Write out the confidence interval in this form and then fill in the critical value and the SE information: Use the calculator (instructions on page 448) to calculate the actual interval. Interpret in context.

1- Proportion Hypothesis Testing Write both hypotheses. Verify the 3 conditions (using the reported parameter). Then, say that “we can use the normal model with a mean of the reported pop. prop. & a SD of to perform a one- proportion z-test.” Draw the normal curve with reported p, statistic, and shaded region given by the alternative hypothesis. Perform the testing using the calculator and give the z-score of the statistic and the P-value of this test value. State your decision: either that we reject or that we fail to reject the null hypothesis BASED ON THE P-VALUE & THE ALPHA LEVEL. – If you reject H 0, you state that you found evidence to support H A (in context). – If you fail to reject H 0, you state that you failed to find evidence to support H A (in context).

2-Proportion Confidence Intervals ID Groups 1 and 2. Verify the four conditions, using sample data. State then that you can use a normal model with a mean of and SE of to create a 2-proprportion Z- interval. Write = ___________. Use the “2-PROPZInt” function in the calculator to construct the actual confidence interval. State the conclusion in context of the problem.

2-Proportion Hypothesis Testing ID Groups 1 and 2. Verify the four conditions (using pooled data). State that you can use the Normal Model with a mean of 0 and a standard error of to perform a 2-proportion z-test. Draw a normal model with a mean of 0, a statistic of, and the shaded region. Use the calculator to perform the testing and give the z-score of the statistic and its P-value. State the conclusion exactly as the 1-prop. test.
