3. Stage 1:The Egg... The first stage in the life cycle of a butterfly is the egg. The egg is as big as a pinhead. The tiny orb laid by a female butterfly. Eggs are usually laid on the underside of leaves- they hatch into larvae

4. Stage 2: The Larva... The second stage in the lifecycle of a butterfly is the larva. It is also called caterpillar. This stage hatches from the egg. The larvae spend time eating, growing and molting.

5. Stage 3: The Pupa... The third stage in the lifecycle of a butterfly is the pupa. It is the stage in a butterfly’s life when it is enclosed in a chrysalis and undergoes metamorphosis into the adult, winged form.

6. Stage 4: The adult... The last stage in the lifecycle of the butterfly is the adult. When the butterfly comes out of the chrysalis, it looks damp and crumpled. Adults do not eat; they only sip liquids through a straw-like proboscis.
