Fuel For Your Cells Part 6: Maintaining Homeostasis

Student Objectives Wednesday, January 06, 2016Wednesday, January 06, 2016Wednesday, January 06, 2016Wednesday, January 06, 2016 After today’s lesson, you will be able to: Determine how the excretion of sweat plays a role in maintaining homeostasis. Determine how the excretion of sweat plays a role in maintaining homeostasis. Determine what effect exercise will have on heart rate. Determine what effect exercise will have on heart rate. Homework: Completed Labs Due. Completed Labs Due.

Lesson Questions: 1.How does the excretion of sweat play a role in body temperature? 2.What affect does exercise have on your heart rate?

-Describe and explain that the complex set of systems found in multicellular organisms are made up of different kinds of tissues and organs which are, in turn, composed of differentiated cells -Select several body systems and explain the role of cells, tissues, and organs in the systems selected that effectively carry out a vital function for the organism, such as:Obtaining food and providing energy, Defense, Reproduction, Waste Removal, Breathing VSC Content Standard: Recognize and explain that human beings, like other organisms have complex body systems of cells, tissues, and organs that interact to support an organisms growth and survival.

Engage your thinking… 1. When you exercise, why do you breathe faster? 2. Why do you sweat?

Exploring Homeostasis… Click on the links below to read instructions to complete each of the labs. Lab Station One Lab Station Two Lab Station One Lab Station TwoLab Station OneLab Station TwoLab Station OneLab Station Two You will have 30-35 minutes to complete each lab station.

Lab Station One: Excretion Through Sweat… 1. Place the Ecolog and Sensor in your left hand and cover with a bag. 2. Click the running man 3. Watch the graph for humidity and temperature. 4. While you wait, answer the hypothesis and review the articles to complete the according to research question. 5. Use your graph to complete the conclusions.

Lab Station Two: Heart Rate and Exercise… Read the lab instructions Use the Ecolog and Pulse sensor to complete the heart rate lab. When finished, complete the lab conclusions.

Evaluate yourself… Can you: Determine how the excretion of sweat plays a role in maintaining homeostasis? Determine how the excretion of sweat plays a role in maintaining homeostasis? Determine what effect exercise will have on heart rate? Determine what effect exercise will have on heart rate?
