Candidates apply Draw up job Description Vacancy Occurs Why not print out onto A3 paper – get students to draw lines between each in the correct order…. Follow up references Label each (1- 9) and draw a line between the 1st and last stage in the process to show the correct order

Job Descriptions A detailed statement of the nature of the job, identifying the precise task and responsibilities involved. Describes the JOB Includes: Job Title and location Responsibilities / duties Responsible to / for

Person Specification A statement or listing of the characteristics required to do a job successfully. Describes the PERSON Includes: Qualifications (e.g. degree) Experience (e.g. number of years) Training (e.g. PGCE) Special skills (e.g. driving) It can also include elements that are essential or desirable … Physical attributes Mental attributes Education and qualifications Experience, training and skills Personality Special circumstances

Internal Recruitment: employees recruited from INSIDE the organisation Only circulated within the business to give existing staff the chance to apply INTERNAL Advantages Disadvantages Cheaper – no expensive adverts More restricted field of candidates Know the organisation Lack of fresh new ideas Quicker – no need to sort through unsuitable candidates May cause disruption / jealousy amongst other workers Easier to judge candidates – internal appraisals Employees may resent taking orders from previous equal Less disruptive, smoother transitions Leaves another internal vacancy
