2 What is? 1. the relationship between the development of the genre and its context, i.e. the position of the genre within history, culture and society; 2. the influence of the context on the genre; 3. the genre’s ability to reflect and challenge society.  In small groups discuss and present your ideas to the class

7 Round Two - Timeline  What happened in NDT at this time and what was happening in The Netherlands in this decade? Research on internet for 10 mins  1959  1969  1975  1978  1991

8 Round Two Answers  1959 – NDT set up by Harkavy and The Netherlands joins the European Union (EU) via its former name of European Economic Community (EEC)  1969 – Van Manen takes over Directorship with Tetley and The Netherlands was far more radical than any other country in applying the progressive philosophy of the sixties to political practice. Whether in the case of same-sex marriage, abortion,, prostitution or euthanasia, Dutch legislators were European frontrunners with their gedoogbeleid  1975 – Jiri Kylian takes over directorship and the legalization of soft drugs  1978 – NDT 2 is created and The Netherlands are Runners up in the World Cup (Excitement)  1991 – NDT 3 is created and Netherlands join the Maastricht Treaty

Some parts of the answer may not be relevant  Some identification of distinctive approaches to the performance material  Limited discussion of the differences between the approaches  Statements are not always supported by examples; depth of discussion is variable  Evidence of specialist vocabulary  Some clarity in the line of argument; written expression shows some inaccuracies in spelling, grammar and punctuation.

13 Mark Scheme  Band 4 (9 - 16 marks)  Some understanding of the features of the area of study  Some points are relevant to the question  Limited identification of approaches to performance material  An understanding of the differences between the approaches is not always demonstrated  Statements are general or superficial. Examples, if used, are not always in support of the content  Some evidence of specialist vocabulary  Inaccuracies in written expression which affect the communication of the content to the reader
