3 "THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS by Clement Clarke Moore or Henry Livingston 'Twas the day before, Thanksgiving when all through the apparment Not a person was stirring, not even a turkey; The turkey were hung by the turkey farm with care, In hopes that St.turkey soon would be there; The turkey were nestled all snug in their nest, While visions of turkey food danced in their beds; And mamma turkey in her ‘feathers, and me in my hat, Had just settled down for a long turkey rest, When out on the turkey house there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the nest to see what was the matter. Away to the door I flew like a flash, Tore open the nobs and threw up the handle. The sun on the breast of the new-fallen leaves Gave the lustre of morning to objects below, When, what to my wondering ears should appear, But a miniature nest and eight tiny baby turkey With a little old woman so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St.turkey More rapid than turkey his coursers they came, And he gobled and called them by nameNow, Mike ! now, Sike! now, Keven and Deven ! On, Miky ! on hiky! on, Bat and Fat! To the top of the nest! to the top of the turkey house! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" As dry acorns that before the hard tornado fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the air, So up to the roof-top the coursers they flew, With the feathers full of grease, and St.Turkey too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof-top The prancing and pawing of each little claws. As I drew in my bed, and was turning around, Down the window St.Turkey came with a bound. He was dressed all in feathers, from his eyebrows to his claws, And his feathers were all tarnished with creak and sparkles; A bundle of nest he had flung on his bottom, And he looked like a bike rider just opening his sack. His claws -- how they twinkled! His smile how merry! His face were like blue, his mouth like a apple ! His droll little nose was drawn up like a row, And the hair of his nose was as white as the cotton; The hump of a medel pipe he held tight in his cheeks, And the coke it encircled his eye like a beef; He had a broad nose and a little round face, That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose; He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight
