B ODY P ARTS /B IG /S MALL 器官 / 大 / 小 Presentation on Programs for Years 3 - 4

Year Level: 3 – 4 Learning Area: LOTE (Chinese) Duration: 7-8 lessons (might take a term) Outcomes: Listening, Responding and Speaking Objectives: enable students to listen, understand and respond to different body parts, big and small in Chinese.

Resources: Pre-recorded songs (with teacher singing) Pre-recorded songs (only accompaniment) Worksheet Bingo set Poster and chart Students’ workbook Speaker for laptop A few markers with different colour Wise panda caps (or any other prizes for students) Laptop with programs to: Play the songs Record students singing

F IRST P ART ( Might take 2~3 lessons, depending on students )

M ENTAL S ET / O PENING : Talk to students about computer games. Discuss about the different levels of the game Today our task is to conquer a game of six different levels Before the game, we must read the instruction

S HARING THE O BJECTIVE AND P URPOSE Ask students whether they know how to sing ‘Head, Shoulder, Knee and Toe’ (I already knew they learned the song) Show hands How many of them know how to sing it in Mandarin? That is the obstacle that we have to overcome for today’s game

I NPUT OR I NFORMATION /C HECKING FOR U NDERSTANDING Show students the poster of a person with body parts labeled in Pinyin Draw another figure on the board and ask students to name the head, shoulder, knee, foot, eye, ear, mouth and nose and label the body parts as students read them out Select wise panda

S ECOND P ART (1 LESSON ) Drawing and pasting (year 3)/labelling (year 4) body parts of their alien, with visual aids The alien must have the body parts that we learned yesterday Introduce new body parts: hand, hair Practice singing ‘Head, Shoulder, Knee and Toe’ Arrange students to sing it as a whole year 3-4 songs during assembly

T HIRD P ART (1 LESSON ) Bingo game on body parts learned Guess what the character means 大 小, demonstrate with action Play ‘ 缪老师说 ’ similar to ‘Simon Says’

F ORTH P ART (1 WEEK ) Repeat ‘ 缪老师说 ’ game Move up one level, must point to the correct body parts instead of only big and small Hand out Incy Wincy Spider worksheet Students to sing ‘Head, Shoulder, Knee and Toe’ during assembly

F IFTY P ART (1 WEEK ) Learn a new song, ‘Where is my friend’ With meWith me Ask students to spot familiar words, phrases in the song: numbers, friends Sing the song with me Sing solo Write the lyric (pinyin) on board Underline friend, change it to any body parts Students to challenge each other (group work, practice and then accept challenge from other group)

S IXTH P ART (1 LESSON ) Revise big, small with ‘ 缪老师说 ’ Revise body parts Do Incy Wincy Spider worksheet again, with different route Sing ‘Where is my body parts?’ Tell students next week we will use the same song to learn family members Where is my father and motherWhere is my father and mother
