Also referred to as Lifestyle Diseases Chronic diseases are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. Chronic diseases account for 70% of all deaths in the U.S., which is 1.7 million each year.

Cardiovascular Disease Any disease of the heart or blood vessels Cardiovascular disease (CVD), primarily heart disease and stroke, causes more deaths in Americans of both genders and all racial and ethnic groups than any other disease. Number One killer in the US.

Cancer Cancer is a disease characterized by a population of cells that grow and divide without respect to normal limits, invade and destroy adjacent tissues. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in America. Every year, cancer is diagnosed in more than a million people. The number of new cancer cases can be reduced substantially, and many cancer deaths can be prevented.

Diabetes Diabetes means your blood glucose (often called blood sugar) is too high. Your blood always has some glucose in it because your body needs glucose for energy to keep you going. But too much glucose in the blood isn’t good for your health. Diabetes can lead to serious problems with your eyes, kidneys, nerves, and gums and teeth. But the most serious problem caused by diabetes is heart disease. When you have diabetes, you are more than twice as likely as people without diabetes to have heart disease or a stroke

Obesity Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and other mammals, is increased to a point where it is associated with certain health conditions or increased mortality. The combination of an excessive nutrient intake (eating too much) and a sedentary lifestyle (no physical activity) has been identified as the main cause for the rapid acceleration of obesity.

Diet Low in Fat and Sugars High in Fruits, Vegetables, and Fiber Lean meats

Exercise 30 to 60 minutes daily of vigorous exercise Regular doctor visits / Early screening
