Unit 2: Themes of the Old Testament
2
Creation—The Beginning of the Story Every worldview must give an account of the HOW and WHY of creation.
3
Genesis 1 explains the order of God’s creation; God created the world in 6 days. Genesis 2 zeroes in on the 6 th day; it is a microscopic look at the creation of man These 2 accounts harmonize with one another.
4
CREATED ON THE 6 TH DAY… He created all that exists, then declared creation to be “good.” CLIMAX? God crowned his creation when he created human beings (Gen. 1:26-27).
5
TO BE MADE IN GOD’S IMAGE MEANS: A) YOU are like God and B) YOU represent God. Without the knowledge of divine creation, we would be left to ourselves to figure out life!
6
WE are born with a remnant of his image; WE are born in sin, estranged and alienated from him. Read Ephesians 2:1- 10.
9
God didn’t create us because He needed us! He is already perfect within himself and would not be sad or lonely without us The Perfector perfects imperfect people Imperfect people are perfected by the Perfector!!! WOAH, that’s DEEP.
10
Who are we? His Creation Like Him Represent him. Like God/ not like God. We THINK rationally. We are not frogs or trees or apes. WE PLEASE HIM!
11
WHY WE are HERE!!!!
12
When you make something, you usually have a reason for making it! Read Isaiah 43:7 To give God glory!
13
Take care of God’s earth! Man works in the material world. Man tills the soil, reaps a harvest, and “subdues” the earth (Gen 1:26 & 28). Man uses, enjoys, & cares for creation!
14
Read John 17:5 & 24 To be with God in glory forever!
15
1. Who created the earth. 2. Who we are. 3. Why we are here.
16
We are not born as God’s children: Ephesians 2:1-10 says we are born his enemies, but God is merciful and gracious and will open our eyes; we must place faith in His Son. We are born in his image, which is gracious of God. Even though we are born through Adam with a sinful nature (Rom 5:18-19), we can be reconciled to God through Christ’s sacrifice. Have I said YES, to Christ? Do I see my value? Do I tell myself the truth or do I hear myself lie to myself about being ugly, stupid, plan B, not special, not good at anything, etc.?

I am going to go back through the slides You are to take your time to go through your notes and process the slide. Write one thing you learned. Dialogue about something that is hard for you to understand. Write out a prayer of response.
