DICHOTOMOUS KEY Construction of a simple dichotomous key and it`s use. A dichotomous is a set of instructions used to identify unknown organisms by using descriptions of observable features. We are going to construct a dichotomous key using some leaves provided.
3
PROCEDURE List down all the major characteristics of the 5 leaves provided based on 1)type of leaf. 2)type of venation. 3)type of tip. 4)arrangement of leaflets.
4
MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS. Leaf A:-simple leaf. :-network venation. :pointed tip. Leaf B:-simple leaf. :-parallel venation. :pointed tip.
5
CONT: Leaf C:-simple leaf. :-network venation. :-round tip. Leaf D:-compound leaf(pinnate) :-network venation. :-leaflets with pointed tips. Leaf E:-compound(digitate) :-network venation. :-leaflets with rounded tips.
6
DICHOTOMOUS TREE Sub divide the 5 given leaves into a)simple and compound leaves. b)parallel and network venation, round and pointed tips on simple leaves only. c)on compound leaves-pinnate and diginate. A,B,C,D,E COMPOUND D,E SIMPLE A,B,C Parallel vein Net vein Pinnate D Digitate E Round tip C Pointed tip A
7
THE DICHOTOMOUS KEY Using the information above, construct a dichotomous key.
