2 Ted Bundy started life as his mother's secret shame
Ted Bundy started life as his mother's secret shame. His mother, Eleanor Cowell, was 22 and unmarried when she had him. To hide the fact he was an illegitimate child, he was raised as the adopted son of his grandparents and was told that his mother was his sister. Childhood

3 In 1951 Eleanor moved with Ted to Tacoma, Washington, and married Johnnie Bundy. Bundy was a shy, but bright child who did well in school, but not with his peers. Childhood

5 While Ted was a student at the University of Washington, he fell in love with a wealthy, pretty young woman from California. When they broke up he was devastated. Many of his later victims resembled his college girlfriend: attractive students with long, dark hair. University Years

7 Ted was wanted for questioning in as many as 36 murders in Colorado, Oregon, Utah, Florida and Washington. In June 1977, the FBI initiated a fugitive investigation when Ted Bundy escaped from a Colorado courthouse where he was on trial for murder. He was recaptured but escaped again, in December 1977, from the Garfield County Jail in Colorado. He was placed on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list and was subsequently arrested, using an alias, by the local authorities in Florida for a stolen car violation in February In 1979, he was sentenced to death and in 1989 executed for the murder of two Florida State University sorority sisters.
