Feb’2003 R5 Goals & Objectives u Provide regular, quality local programs o Reverse the trend of fewer local technical programs. o Develop Regional (Section) – Society partnerships. o Investigate/develop local technical conferences (applications-oriented). o Support career & professional development meetings. o Promote continuing education opportunities.

Feb’2003 R5 Goals & Objectives u Provide leadership training and opportunities for advancement o Provide opportunities for leadership and program management skills development. o Ensure each Section volunteer has access to basic information necessary to perform his job. o Facilitate the exchange of “best practices” among volunteers. o Provide recognition for successes and sponsorship for advancement through the organization to positions of increasing responsibility.

Feb’2003 R5 Goals & Objectives u Identify and provide tangible benefits to industry such that IEEE is recognized as a essential partner with industry o Establish closer relationships with local industry to identify and explore areas of mutual benefit. o Establish an IEEE liaison (disciple) at major companies to promote those areas of mutual benefit. o Increase recognition of industry relations efforts.

Feb’2003 R5 Goals & Objectives u Promote community involvement and professional image o Encourage IEEE involvement in areas of importance to local communities: pre- college education activities, educational seminars on public interest issues, local government/tech policy issues. o Raise visibility and public awareness of the profession. o Develop and maintain contacts with local media.

Feb’2003 R5 Goals & Objectives u Improve communication at and between all levels and units o Take maximum advantage of electronic communication facilities. o Maintain accurate lists of volunteers, contact information and responsibilities. o Collect and distribute best practices across the Region.

Feb’2003 SC02 Issues & Recommendations 1. Sharing program ideas 2. Value of membership: Provide a free Society membership as part of member ship dues. 3. Enhance volunteerism with clear policies and procedures for motivating, training, and recognizing new and prospective officer volunteers. 4. Add Institute-wide awards: o Outstanding section communication with members o Industry executive support of section activities
