2 AP Physics Chapter 18 Electric Current Alessandro Volta (1745-1827) invented the electric battery. An electric cell is composed of 1 anode and 1 cathode…a battery is a battery of these cells. An electrolyte is the solution in a cell. The electrode is the metal of the electrode. See electric cell and be able to build/sketch all parts.

4 18-3 Ohm’s Law: Resistance and Resistors Simon Ohm (1787-1854) established experimentally that the current in a metal wire is proportional to voltage. Ohm’s law states V=IR or that current in a conductor is proportional to the voltage, in metal conductors. (See p533) Some materials are non-ohmic. See Example 18-3 p 533.
