Today’s Sermon: Mark 14:1-21, “A Woman Anoints Jesus’ Head With Nard From Alabaster Vial / The Betrayal Of Judas Iscariot” by Pastor Jim Bomkamp

Outline of today’s msg: 1. Mark’s tells us about a woman who came and anointed Jesus’ head with a very expensive vial of nard from an alabaster vial 2. We will analyze the life and betrayal of Judas Iscariot

Mark 14:1-9: A woman pours an expensive alabaster vial of nard on Jesus’ head

When did this anointing of Jesus really occur, John 12:1 tells us it occurred 6 days before the Passover?

According to John 12, the woman who did this anointing was “Mary”, the sister of Martha and Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead

Jesus had now (this last week of His life) brought out two opposite responses from people

Its hard to imagine why anyone would want to kill Jesus, when we think about His life and all He has done for people

It was not only Judas who had a problem with this huge amount of money being used to anoint and honor Jesus: ‘some were indignantly remarking to one another’

Was Judas being hypocritical because his real motive for being angry about the large amount of money being used to anoint Jesus?

Do churches spend too much money on worship and the expenses incurred to worship God and teach people God’s word?

Reasons that Jesus stops the disciples who were scolding the woman: 1. ‘She has done a good deed to Me’ 2. ‘you always have the poor with you’ 3. ‘She has done what she could’ 4. ‘she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial’
