US History I R Track (10 th Grade) United States History I R/S are survey courses that intend to prepare students to live and be responsible citizens in an ever changing world. These courses are designed to introduce students to the political, economic and cultural challenges, conditions and changes of the past that have contributed to our present-day society. Beginning with the Colonial period students will trace the major events that shaped America all the way through to the beginning of the 20th century. These courses will teach continuity and change; respect for rights and abilities of the individual, concern for the welfare of others and tolerance of differences among peoples. The following are incorporated in the units of study: economics, geography, literacy in social studies, the use and analysis of primary sources, the history of the United States, New Jersey, and the World.

Goals of Class Historical Significance- THE WHY? Cause and Effect Oral Presentations Note taking skills Writing- Use Mini-Q’s Thinking/Reasoning- get out of the textbook Prepare them for the next level

Grading Policy 50%- Major Assessments- exams, projects, class presentations, historical “Mini-Q” presentations, Notebook (2 per marking period) 25%- Homework- primary source worksheets, research for presentations, vocabulary, open- ended questions 25%- Classwork/Quizzes/Class Participation and Preparation Classwork- assignments completed in class such as mini-presentations, worksheets, video questions

Grading Policy Quizzes- Most open note/check to see if students completing vocabulary and reading Participation/Preparation Student responsibility is the key!!! Check School Wires for missing work when absent.
