2 North and South Book Club Participants To get Book Club privileges: –You sign up and attend a book discussion session. –You may trade a session date with another. –You may substitute a book journal only with permission from Mrs. McArthur and according to guidelines printed in syllabus. –You send Mrs. McArthur an email requesting the grade you wish dropped according to instructions provided. (She will send you a receipt which is your proof that she received your message.)

3 What’s necessary to address a DBQ challenge 1.Read the question. Note two questions that your thesis must address: What issues (benefits/challenges) are raised by Manchester’s growth, 1750- 1850? What reactions to this growth do the documents reveal? 2.Read and analyze the documents; take notes on content, point of view. Qui bono? 3.Brainstorm thesis possibilities by using a graphic organizer. What patterns do you see? (Consider our lecturer’s organizational approach.) 4.Generate a thesis: Big picture versus supporting ideas/evidence. 5.Create an outline making sure that all documents have been address in context of ideas. 6.Write.
