4. Where does Symbolism come from? Inherited or invented Ex. Lion = power (inherited) Ex. Peter Pan = eternal childhood (invented)

5. Why are symbols created? Writers use the symbols to create layers of meaning that words cannot do alone. This causes you to read “between the lines.

6. Allegory? A story in which characters, settings, and actions stand for something beyond themselves.
