1 8th Grade Physical Science Mrs. Miret M.Ed.
11/2 – 11/6/2015 8th Grade Physical Science Mrs. Miret M.Ed.

2 11/2 – 11/6/2015 BELLRINGERS Monday 11/2 What is the difference between mass, weight, and volume? Tuesday 11/3 Do objects in space follow Newton’s laws of motion? Explain your answer. Wednesday 11/4 I am the amount of matter in an object ________ I am the amount of space an object takes up ________ I am the amount or strength of gravity applied to an object. ________ Thursday 11/5 NONE / COW Day (Computers on Wheels) Friday 11/6 Which law states that the total momentum of a group of objects stays the same unless outside forces act on the objects?

3 10/2 ACTIVITY #27 MASS, WEIGHT, AND VOLUME EQ: What is the difference between mass, weight, and volume. MASS The amount of matter in an object WEIGHT The measure of the force of gravity on an object VOLUME The amount of space an object takes up

4 11/3 ACTIVITY #28. Matter, Mass, Weight, and Volume
11/3 ACTIVITY #28* Matter, Mass, Weight, and Volume. *Four panel foldable MATTER MASS WEIGHT VOLUME What is matter? Everything in the universe is matter. Things that have matter, also have mass, weight, and volume. PROPERTIES OF MATTER Texture Color Shape Smell Size Hardness Chemical reactivity What is mass? Mass is the amount of matter in an object. Mass is not dependent on location. This means that mass is the same regardless of its location. What is weight? Weight is a measure of the amount of gravity acting on an object. Weight depends on the amount of gravity. This means that it changes depending on its location. What is volume? Volume is the amount of space an object takes up. Objects with different amounts of matter can have the same volume. The density of the object would increase

5 11/4 ACTIVITY #29 ANSWER KEY Study guide for test on 11/6
1. Which term refers to the amount of matter in an object? MASS 2. Which refers to a force that is applied when two objects touch? CONTACT FORCE 3. Which term refers to forces that combine with a net force of zero? BALANCED FORCES 4. The tendency of an object to resist a change in its motion is called what? INERTIA 5. Which law states that the total momentum of a group of objects stays the same unless outside forces act on the objects? THE LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM 6. Which term refers to a force that one object can apply to another without touching? NON CONTACT 7. Is magnetic force a contact or non-contact force? NON CONTACT 8. Which describes the net force of different forces acting in the same direction? (The type of force) UNBALANCED FORCES 9. Which describes the net force of different forces acting in the same direction? (Velocity) OBJECT WOULD SPEED UP 10. Which refers to the collision of objects that bounce off each other? ELASTIC COLLISION

6 11/5 COW (Computers on Wheels) DAY
Check your computer and sign in. Go to google chrome. Go to quizlet.commiretmouseActivity #29 Once you are at the proper list, click on TEST Remove multiple choice and true or false questions. Set the test to TERMS Begin test, check test. Goal is no less than 80% You may work on PENDALEARNING.COM when you have achieved the pretest goal.

7 11/6 Forces Quiz Take out a piece of notebook paper
Write your name on the paper Write your period on the paper Number your paper 1 – 10, skip a line between each number When you get your test, write down what version of the test you are taking (A, B, OR C)

8 11/6 GOALS Activity #30 EQ: How will I improve my grade in this quarter?
What will I do differently? What will I continue to do? What will I need to stop doing? How can I improve my grade? What helped me learn? What did not help me at all? What do I need to be successful in this class?
