6. HOW DID WE DISCOVER THE CELL??
Robert Hooke: built his own compound microscope in order to observe a thin slice of cork (bark of cork tree).
He came up with the term "cell" to describe what he saw.
Cell means "small room”

7. Anton van Leeuwenhoek observed lake water through a microscope.
called the unicellular organisms he saw"animalcules".

8. Scientists, their discoveries, and the creation of the Cell Theory
Schleiden: in 1838, concluded that all plants are made of cells
Schwann: in 1839, concluded that all animals are made of cells.
Virchow: in 1855, proposed that all cells come from other cells
Together, these scientists and others helped to develop the cell theory.
