Honors Geometry 10 Jan 2012 WARM UP- THINK- 2 minutes silently PAIR- chat with a partner 1. Which of the equations is false? a) 5 2 = 10 b) 4 2 = 2 4 c) 6 2 = 36 d) 8 2 = 4 2 Explain how you found your answer 3. Solve for x and check Check your homework √ if correct, x if incorrect

Objective Students will apply area formulas for parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids and kites to solve problems. Students will use think-pair-share and present to their work to the class.

Homework DUE Today pg. 430: 1- 15 odds, 19, 20, 22, 28 due Wed/ Th pg. 472: 17, 20, 21, 22 re-quiz on definitions of quadrilaterals also KNOW area formulas for rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, kites

syllabus Highlight as we read through the syllabus Make sure you understand how you will be graded in this class quiz- pass back you must know the definitions/ sketches! STUDY them!

Term Definition Example Triangle area conjecture The area of a triangle is given by the formula, A is the area, b is the base, and h is the height of the triangle Trapezoid Area Conjecture The area of a Trapezoid is given by the formula, A is the area, b 1 and b 2 are the bases and h is the height of the trapezoid Kite Area Conjecture The area of a Kite is given by the formula, A is the area, d 1 and d 2 are the lengths of the diagonals

Practice 1.Give the formula for the area of each figure: 2. Determine the height of the trapezoid if the area = 120 ft 2 3. Determine the perimeter 4. Determine the height of the triangle if the area = 24 m 2 5. What is the area of the shaded region ALWAYS USE FORMAT: 1. Formula 2. Substitute 3. Do the math4. Units

debrief what is the format required for all area problems? how do you find a base length of a trapezoid when given the area, the length of the other base and the height? what do you need to practice/ study for tomorrow’s quiz?
