Background n The course is delivered by two RNLD. n Use the local school of nursing n design by negotiation with local social services n Considered good practice by local LD service and Epilepsy interest groups

Aim of the Day n To assess carers competence to administer Rectal Valium Safely n Emphasis of training on using the JEC protocol

Rectal Valium Training n Have to attend epilepsy awareness first n Small groups initially n Need: – Prosthetic Bum – Full size 1st aid mannequin – TV & Video

Plan of Day n Morning – Written assessment 1 – What is rectal Valium – Why we use it – Practical demonstration – First Aid n Afternoon – Written assessment 2 – break – individually enter a room for practical assessment – Change scenario

Written Assessment n Clear improvements in knowledge n Can conclude that Information has been retained n All achieve acceptable standard – All score over 50% – No serious errors
