III. The Ecosystem
2
A. Species 1. A species is a group of organisms so similar that they are capable of interbreeding 2. Share characteristics, habitat, and range
3
3. A Subspecies is a even smaller division based on tiny differences a. Things like domestic organisms b. Lumpers- do not recognize subspecies(tigers are tigers) c. Splitters- break organisms down (Siberian, Sumatran, Indian tigers)
4
4. Species must be able to interbreed with each other a. Argument: what about geographical limitations?
5
B. Populations and Communities 1. All of the members of one species in an area make up a population. a. Population density is the amount of a species in a given area 2. All the populations in an area make a community.(plants, animals, fungi, etc.) 3. Ecosystem- all biotic and abiotic factors in an area a. high variety = high biodiversity

D. The High School Ecosystem 1. Break down Crestwood High School into species and subspecies, as well as what makes the population, community, and the ecosystem as a whole
