2 President 1. The club president is the chief executive officer of the club 2. The club president presides at all meetings of the club and board of directors 3. Preparing and following an agenda as well as using parliamentary procedure will ensure the meetings run smoothly and productively

3 President 4. The club president has no absolute authority 5. The president’s authority to act must come from directives of the club as a whole, board of directors, club constitution, by-laws, policies and the Standard Form Lions Club Constitution and By-Laws

4 President Preparing for your year as Club President 1. Study your Club Officer Manual, Std Form Constitution, Club Constitution, By-Laws, Policies, etc. 2. Attend Club Officer Training 3. Plan your year, set your Goals 4. Develop an Action Plan to accomplish your Goals

5 President 5. Develop a Calendar and Check List of dates, times and things to do 6. Organize your committees and appoint your committee chairs 7. Plan your club’s service activities 8. Prepare well for your first club and board meetings 9. Always be positive & enthusiastic

6 President Four fundamentals of successfully conducting a meeting 1. Good preparation/well planned—using a written agenda and make it interesting 2. Good knowledge and use of parliamentary procedure 3. Knowledge and use of good leadership skills—Take charge and be fair 4. Stay on top and keep things moving

7 President Other duties of the Club President 1. Attend all Zone meetings 2. Attend District Cabinet meetings and the District Convention 3. Be a good communicator—with your club members, zone chair, district governor—and keep yourself informed

8 President 4. Make sure your club officers are keeping up/doing their duties and keep them informed 5. Constantly check the pulse of your club and membership—keep them active and happy—make sure the club is healthy 6. What is a healthy Lions Club??? 7. Develop future club leaders

9 President 8. Maintain an active membership committee and growth program 9. Conduct a club retreat periodically and/or when needed 10. Conduct a review of club projects and activities periodically 11. Conduct a community needs assesment periodically

10 President 12. Become familiar with LCI’s “Healthy Club Toolbox” 13. Constantly praise and reward your membership for good work, ideas, etc. 14. Use the LCI Web-site to stay up on LCI’s programs, materials, awards and useful information for your club—and read your monthly copy of the “The Lion”

11 President 15. Protect the name and emblem of LCI against all illegal use 16. Conduct an annual Charter Night/Awards Dinner to celebrate your club’s accomplishments and to reward your outstanding club members 17. Prepare your successor for their year and turn over all important club records

12 18. At the discretion of the President, Vice Presidents can be assigned to: a. Preside at meetings in the absence of the president b. Chair club committees and projects c. And serve on the Board of Directors

13 President 19. Always practice the F.E.R.P. Principle— Always Be Friendly Always Be Enthusiastic Always Be Responsible And Always Be Positive

14 President 20. Your Legacy will depend on: a. The quality of your leadership and the effort you gave to your job as President—MAKE IT GOOD b. Your place in history in the hearts and minds of your membership will depend upon your accomplishments and the effort you gave—MAKE THEM GOOD

15 President c. Your club will look to you in the future for your advice and leadership— MAKE IT GOOD d. From day one, strive to be a 100% President e. Have a GREAT YEAR
