NCAA Core Course Requirements Make sure the core courses you take are NCAA approved (48H) GPA is taken from your approved core courses, not your accumulative GPA

What year should you start tracking NCAA core course GPA? Freshmen Year You could have 33% of NCAA core course requirements in freshmen year. 85% of people questioned said they waited until their junior or senior year.

Up to Graduation Class 2015 D1 & D2 minimum core course GPA is 2.0 D1 SAT/ACT score* is on a sliding scale D2 SAT/ACT score* is a fixed minimum 820 SAT/68 ACT Must complete 16 NCAA core course (48H) Graduate from high school *does not include the writing portion of SAT/ACT

Class of 2016 & Beyond (D1) D1 minimum core course GPA increases to 2.3 10 out of 16 core course requirements MUST be completed by the end of junior year.* (7 must come from Eng., Math, Science) Students may still be able to receive a scholarship with a core course GPA between 2.0-2.9, but cannot participate freshmen year. *those 10 core courses are locked in 1 st day of senior year

Scholarships No such thing as a 4 year “Full Ride”* All athletic scholarships are 1-year renewable deals for D2 *D1 schools now have the OPTION to guarantee more than 1 year, but most do not guarantee more than one year.

National Letter of Intent www.national-letter.org Voluntary Provides a 1 year guarantee, if athlete meets academic requirements. Stops the recruiting process

National Letter of Intent How can you get out of a national letter of intent? Not easy, college can deny release and you would have to sit out freshmen year. You sign NLI with the institution, not the coach.

Social Networking NEVER facebook, twitter, snap chat, etc. when bitter. Be smart about what you put on social media. Cell phone cameras are EVERYWHERE!

What can we do now for college? Talk to Guidance Counselor about academics Athletes need to focus on academics Begin thinking about SAT/ACT tests Think about colleges and possible majors Fill out Player Profile for RHS Soccer Website
