3 Task Analysis Task Analysis – some definitions Job Analysis Job Analysis – gathering information about a job Job Description Job Description – primary job function : key roles, accountability and tasks Job Specification Job Specification – skills, knowledge & attitudes to do the job effectively Task Analysis Task Analysis – is a detailed breakdown of one aspect of the job role eg. how to load a stapler Required so that a session plan can be developed When planning a a task analysis watch it beining done & break the task into logical steps

8 Task Analysis Why analyse a task Unconscious incompetence You cannot do it and are not aware of not having the skill. Conscious incompetence You don’t have the skill but are aware of it and need to develop it Conscious competence You have developed the skill but think consciously about every step. Unconscious competence Skill is automatic, you no longer consider each step.

Do the task yourself or watch it being done. Break to task into logical stages. Do the task again and establish the steps. Note important key points Affect on safety. Affect of quality. Making task easier. Limit stages to 5 –7.
