5. How much support shall I give my child when reading a word? What if my child does not know the sounds in a word?

6. At the front of reading record we will keep a diary of what children are learning in phonics. Sounds they have been taught will be highlighted off. Please note: When children are taught a new sound we ensure they are able to apply that sound confidently to reading and writing. How will I know what sounds my child knows?

12.  Play the high frequency word games.  Practise saying bouncy and stretchy sounds with flashcards provided. (New sound flashcards will be given as children are taught the new sounds in school).  Read with your child each day for 10 minutes. Use the phonics home/ school sheet in reading records. 20.  Once children have sounded out a word they do not know encourage them to re- read the sentence so they comprehend what they have read. Re- reading the sentence
