2. Definition Plagiarism is usually defined as trying to pass someone else’s work off as your own. There are two basic types of plagiarism I encounter regularly: –Whole scale plagiarism – a whole paper is “borrowed” and submitted as the student’s –Lazy or careless citations – pieces of a text that are clearly from another source are misquoted, not cited, not indicated as quotes with quotations marks, or otherwise misused.

3. Two rules for avoiding plagiarism: 1.Cite all quoted material and all summarized and paraphrased material, unless the information is common knowledge. 2.Make sure that both the wording and the sentence structure of your summaries and paraphrases are substantially your own.
