2 BACKGROUND Brief Description of Group to be Taught: 5 th grade classroom 24 children 5 on IEP’s No ELL children Purpose of Lesson: The purpose of this lesson is to teach children about different styles of poetry.

3 Behavioral Objectives/Learning Outcomes for Students: Students will be able create a poem about feelings in the poetic form of a simile. 4 What is a simile? “A simile is a way of describing something by using the word “like” or “as” to compare it to something else. For example: Happiness is like a sunset. I am as happy as a monkey with a banana.
