Natural Resources What are renewable resources? What are nonrenewable resources? How do human activities affect the Earth’s resources?

Reusable Resources Reusable resources can be used again and again. Examples include water, carbon dioxide, oxygen and nitrogen. Recycling cans makes aluminum reusable.

Renewable Resources Renewable resources cannot be used again and again. Wood cannot be used over and over, but new trees can be planted. Resources are renewable if they can be replaced within a human life span.

Nonrenewable Resources Materials that are used once and gone forever are nonrenewable. These resources cannot be replace within a human life span. Examples: Coal, Oil, Soil

Humans Can Alter Ecosystems Humans affect ecosystems through mining, forestry, and agriculture. Pollution is another affect that is recycled through other ecosystems.

Reducing Pollution Conservation: Saving resources. Example: Turn off lights (fossil fuel) Recycling programs Preservation of living resources-Parks

Summary Natural cycles allow some resources to be reusable. Renewable resources can be replace within a human life span. Nonrenewable resources cannot be replaced. Through conservation we can slow down the usage of nonrenewable resource.
