Socializing Online b Can help kids connect with friends and family b But you might share too much information b Or you might hurt someone’s feelings b Or damage their reputation

Socializing Online b The words you write have consequences b Think about the language you use b Friends, family and even teachers can see it b You can’t take it back

Cyberbullying b “Cyberbullying “ is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive technologies or mobile phones.

If you are cyberbullied b Are you the victim of mean- spirited comments? b Don’t respond - the bully is looking for attention b Print the evidence and keep a record b Block or delete that person; it’s not better to stay connected so you can see what else they type - You can even report that person to the web site b Report it to a trusted adult

If you know it’s happening b Don’t respond to the cyberbullying, except to tell the bully to stop b Decide if you should also block or delete the bully as your friend b Be nice to the victim!

If you think you’re cyberbullying b Choose to stop before you hurt anyone else b Talk with an adult about the person you want to bully b Have an adult help you talk out the problem you have with the vicitm

WPCS Anti-Bullying Policy b All incidents should be reported to any staff member b They will inform the appropriate School Administrator immediately b The report will be investigated b All students involved will be interviewed b Parents will be notified of the incident when appropriate b Parents will be given the results of the interviews and investigation b Disciplinary actions will be taken which could include b Suspensions and/or b Recommendations for expulsion

If an adult at school sees it b They may: b Save the evidence b Conduct a threat assessment b Assess response options b Identify the perpetrators b Support the victim b Provide guidance how to remove the speech b Contact the parents

What WPCS can do about it b We will teach you how to solve your problems responsibly b We may contact your parents; let them decide how to proceed b You may meet with Mrs. Murray

The Golden Rule b Even applies online b Treat others the way you want to be treated b You DON’T want anyone talking about YOU online, do you? b You aren’t brave to hide behind a computer screen to hurt people
