Formatting Your Research Paper

Do Not use a cover sheet Do Not insert pictures Do Not change the font color or size. ( Microsoft Word’s primary setting is 12pt. Times New Roman)

Double Spacing The paper should be double spaced Click on Format Click on Paragraph

Double Spacing Change the dropdown box labeled Line Spacing from “Single” to “Double” Click OK

Heading At the top of the tool bar, beside the Bold, Italics, and Underline buttons are the margin buttons. Click on the last button.

Heading Your name, Date, and Class Period should be printed in the upper right hand corner.

Title Your paper must have a title. Center your paper the same way you set it to type on the Right Margin.

Title Click on the Bold button.

Title This is what your title should look like.

The Paper Click on the Left Margin button. Remember to turn off the Bold button.

The Paper Remember to indent each paragraph. Remember to use at least 3 direct quotes (one from each source) within your paper. Use citations after direct quotes and paraphrases (Last #)

Works Cited Page Should be it’s own separate page. Center the title, “Works Cited” Set your paper to single space

Works Cited Page Set hanging indent At the top of the Word document, you will see a ruler bar. On that ruler bar you will find 2 arrows pointing at each other.

Works Cited Page Drag both arrows to the.5” mark.

Works Cited Page Then drag the top arrow only back to the original beginning point. This will set the hanging indent for the rest of the page.

Works Cited Page Arrange entries by alphabetical order Double space only between entries
