5 General Information The Tide will begin operation in 2011 and will serve an estimated 6000-12,000 rider per day. Costing 338.3 millions dollars, the system is 7.4 miles long, with 11 stations, and 4 park and ride lots. Trains will be 9 vehicles long and run to and from the Eastern Virginia Medical Center through downtown Norfolk, along I-264 to Newtown Road every 7.5 minutes during peak rush hour, every 15 minutes during off peak hours, and every 30 minutes during early morning, late evening hours. The system provides access to major areas such as Norfolk State University, Tidewater Community College (Norfolk Campus), Harbor Park, City Hall, MacArthur Center, and the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
