3. You can if it’s a Prayer Quilt. If you are sick, troubled, seriously/terminally ill, or just need HOPE. These quilts are a PHYSICAL/VISUAL REMINDER you are not alone.

4. Prayers and Squares is an interfaith outreach that began in 1992 at Hope United Methodist Church in San Diego, California. Since its beginning the ministry has expanded to include 914 chapters in many different denominations across the world.

5. Prayers and Squares Chapter 540 was established by an alliance of women at First Assembly of God. It is an outreach ministry that combines the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt.

6. We have incorporated the use of 39 red ties in our quilts representing the 39 stripes Christ took for our healing. The ends of the ties are left free to be tied in a knot. As each knot is tied, a prayer is offered for the intended recipient.

7. The recipient is someone who has a special need and a request for a quilt has been made. Prayers are offered, knots are tied, the quilt is then given to that special person.

8. Our quilts are special not because of the pattern, color or workmanship, but that prayer is offered for each knot. These quilts are a statement of faith, a belief in a healing God and a confidence in the power of prayer.

10. Beryl (Burgandy) Geer I was given the prayer quilt when I had major lung surgery in 2007. It was (and still is) such a wonderful visual reminder of the “prayer and caring” the ladies of First Assembly emanate. I keep this quilt on my recliner at all times.
