FIVE FACTS ABOUT “YANKEE DOODLE”  When the song refers to “macaroni”, it’s not talking about the cheesy food, it is talking about the wigs that the British wore  The tune of the song came from the nursery rhyme “Lucy Locket”  “Doodle” means fool, or simpleton  Yankee Doodle was written during the Revolutionary war in 1755 Dr. Richard Schuckburg  Schuckburg was a British surgeon, and wrote the song after seeing colonial troops lead by Colonel Thomas Fitz Jr.
