EQUIPMENT Pens (black is recommended) Pencils (B or 2B) and eraser Highlighter pens (optional) A ruler marked in millimetres and centimetres A protractor A pair of compasses A set square A calculator* * Calculators may be used in Section 2 of the Mathematics School Certificate Test. Some restrictions apply - these can be checked on the Board of Studies Website. Check that the above equipment is in good working order well before the test. In particular check that calculators are working properly and batteries are in sufficient supply. PREPARATION There are four key elements in preparing for a test: * Revision * Test Technique * Equipment * Physical and mental wellbeing Revise work completed in class Seek assistance regarding unsure work Have a suitable study timetable that allocates time wisely Attend the homework for extra assistance Complete previous School Certificate Tests available on the Board of Studies website Use the online multiple choice tests and review the answers Have regular sleeping patterns that ensure sufficient amounts of rest Have a balanced life – family, school, work and leisure Use the available resources to achieve desired potential There are four key elements in preparing for a test: * Revision * Test Technique * Equipment * Physical and mental wellbeing Revise work completed in class Seek assistance regarding unsure work Have a suitable study timetable that allocates time wisely Attend the homework for extra assistance Complete previous School Certificate Tests available on the Board of Studies website Use the online multiple choice tests and review the answers Have regular sleeping patterns that ensure sufficient amounts of rest Have a balanced life – family, school, work and leisure Use the available resources to achieve desired potential

TEST STATEGIES Allocate time wisely - make sure there is enough time for each question Allow about a minute per question - this will ensure there is time to check work at the end Read each question carefully - ensure the actual question is being answered Make sure all necessary working is shown - check no steps are left out Draw neat, diagrams in the spaces provided - ensure all appropriate markings are included Use a ruler to draw diagrams Make sure the diagrams are large enough with accurate information Do not round off calculations until the answer is completed If necessary, answer Part B of Section 2 before Part A - this is worth more marks and it is easier to answer multiple choice quickly if time is running out Attempt every question to the best ability Allocate time wisely - make sure there is enough time for each question Allow about a minute per question - this will ensure there is time to check work at the end Read each question carefully - ensure the actual question is being answered Make sure all necessary working is shown - check no steps are left out Draw neat, diagrams in the spaces provided - ensure all appropriate markings are included Use a ruler to draw diagrams Make sure the diagrams are large enough with accurate information Do not round off calculations until the answer is completed If necessary, answer Part B of Section 2 before Part A - this is worth more marks and it is easier to answer multiple choice quickly if time is running out Attempt every question to the best ability
