Long Pants or Jeans... or Lab Coat if you wear shorts, skirts, kilts Slacks worn snugly at waist, no undergarment showing!! Hats are not allowed in any class or laboratory Hair longer than earlobes must be secured with hair-tie in laboratory Neither food nor drink are allowed in laboratory Do not come to class in your pajamas and slippers!! Cell phone/computer use during lab is allowed ONLY if the lab activity directly makes use of its features!

Hoboken, NJ is recommended supplementary reading (from Bio 202) No Laboratory Manual, handouts are provided today Three-Ring Binder, Zipper Pouch, Pencil with Eraser Simple Calculator useful (+ – x ÷ =) Colored pencil set would be useful Your cell phone timer and calculator could be useful too! All students with long hair need to have a scrunchie for labs with fire

11 Let’s Look at the Syllabus Quizzes Weekly quizzes based on previous lab (current lab) Question types as diverse as biology is: »Multiple Choice »True False »Matching (esp diagrams!) »Drawings (for you to sketch) »Short Answer Quiz question type mix will NOT be announced ahead of time Absence any Quiz: 0 score in spite of situation Don’t be late (see syllabus)! 10% score penalty for quiz taken in ink…bring your pencil! Straight scale: 90 + %A- 80 + %B- 70 + %C- 60 + %D- Quizzes provide 30% of course grade

12 Let’s Look at the Syllabus Laboratory Worksheets Must bring worksheet to lab class Must hand in worksheet before you leave the laboratory »Worksheet filled out in ink: 10% penalty--bring your pencil! No makeup of laboratory exercises ever!  Missed Laboratory exercise = 0 on corresponding worksheet(s)  NEVER schedule physician or court dates on lab days! Laboratory worksheets provide 70% of course grade

13 Let’s Look at the Syllabus Participation Participation is expected! You must attend both hours of laboratory Attendance, Attitude, Attention are critical Staying on-task, remaining engaged in work Being an effective team member Bringing all materials needed Being ON TIME, EVERY TIME!

14 Let’s Look at the Syllabus Extra Credit There is NO extra credit »Not for any one »Not for any reason »Not at any time Cheating Copying or Plagiarism Completely Prohibited »We share data observations only with those who helped collect them »We never share calculated results, or written answers to questions »Plagiarism of each other will be given severe penalties! »Plagiarism includes the giving of your work that someone else copies (see in Student Handbook, page 81). BEWARE! »Using a Lab Partner’s calculated answers is plagiarism…providing the calculated answers is plagiarism too. »Only use your own words, even if you agree on the idea! Bonuses might be provided for everyone to win!

15 Let’s Look at the Syllabus Participation Commuting Students » There is no special treatment for commuting students » Is your vehicle reliable? » Are your tires capable of driving in snow? » Is there a family member who can drive you for “Plan B” » Do you have a “Plan C” carpool with other students in town? » Are you a courageous driver in snow, sleet, ice, pouring rain? » Parking is limited on our campus…arrive early to find a spot » Plan on walking time from your parking spot to class
