The play starts off very slow. Flavius/Marullus are killed for taking down Caesar’s statues. There are A LOT of names that begin with the letter “C” Soothsayer warns Caesar to “beware the Ides of March,” but Caesar does not listen. Cassius is trying to convince Brutus to kill Caesar—so far, Brutus has said “no.” The language between Cassius and Brutus is quite— passionate. Casca gives birth to the phrase, “It was Greek to me!” Caesar is offered the crown to Rome three times—each time, Caesar refuses. He eventually “faints” and offers to cut his throat to the crowd. Scene I: The crowd is happy with Caesar’s return, but two citizens, Marullus and Flavius are not. They scold the crowd for its fickleness. Scene II: Caesar and friends at a fertility feast. A soothsayer warns Caesar to “beware the Ides of March.” Brutus and Cassius argue over the ambition of Caesar. Casca joins in. Scene III: Supernatural events occur. Caesar is to be elected King.
