Engineering Study Griffin View Drive & Harbor Hills Blvd. Prepared for Lake County Public Works Engineering 437 Ardice Avenue Eustis, Florida 32726 Purchase Order Number: 20101202 Submitted by: BESH #100019.0000 June 10, 2010
2
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify options and costs to calm traffic along Griffin View Drive, identify potential roadway improvements along Griffin View Drive at the intersection with Harbor Hills Boulevard and identify possible intersection modifications to improve safety and increase sight distances along Griffin View Drive.
3
EXISTING CONDITIONS Posted Speed 35 MPH Limited Right of Way 8% and 10% Profile Grade BACKGROUND DATA 215 Trips Griffin View Drive – EAST 1,000 Trips Griffin View Drive – WEST 85% Speed – 46 MPH 8% of trips 50 MPH NO CRASHES reported 1/1/2000 through 3/1/2010
5
DESIGN ALTERNATIVES 1.Three-Way Stop Condition with Rumble Strips 2.Curb Section with addition of dedicated East Bound Left Turn Lane 3.Re-alignment of Vertical Curve for 40 MPH design speed 4.Re-alignment of Vertical Curve for 45 MPH design speed 5.Re-alignment of the intersection horizontal geometry 6.Addition of an Acceleration Lane for drivers exiting Harbor Hills west bound on Griffin View Drive 7.Addition of Speed Humps 8.Intersection modification with Roundabout installation
6
EVALUATION ALTERNATE 1 – Least Expensive – Easiest to Implement – No Right of Way Required – Wheel noise from rumble strips – Danger of cars running stop sign
8
EVALUATION ALTERNATE 3 – Addresses Site Distance Issue – An Expensive Option – Requires Additional Right of Way – Grading Easement – Does not reduce speeds on Griffin View Drive
11
EVALUATION ALTERNATE 5 – Provides Traffic Calming – It is a Median Pricing Alternative – Requires Some Right of Way – Only from Harbor Hills
