2 The Abolitionist in the United States was a movement and was an effort that try to end slavery and slave trade in a nation that valued personal freedom and believed “all men were created equal”. Fact 1

3 Fact 2 The abolitionist began in the 1820’s and the actual movement didn’t start till the 1830’s The movement ended in 1870 The reason for that is because many Americans did not accept the movement and the end to slavery and slave trade till later on.

4 Fact 3 The first state to abolish slavery was Massachusetts, where a court decision in 1783 interpreted the Massachusetts Constitution of 1780.

5 Fact 4 Frederick Douglass was an African-American social reformer, orator, writer and statesman. After escaping from slavery, he became a leader of the abolitionist movement. President Benjamin Harrison attends ceremony at Kodak Park with Frederick Douglass, Mayor Hiram Edgerton and Civil War veterans.

6 Fact 5 Abolitionist ideas became increasingly prominent in Northern churches and politics beginning in the 1830s, which contributed to the regional animosity between North and South leading up to the Civil War.
