2. His Biography
Henri-Émile -Benoit Matisse was born on December 31, 1869 in the Picardy region of northern France
Studied law and worked as a law clerk
At the age of 21, he became seriously ill and when he recovered, he began to paint and discover his love for art
Quits on law and starts his life-long passion for art

3. La Danse (The Dance)
This art’s style is primitive art and uses a classic Fauvist colour palette.
- It has intense warm colors against the cool blue- green background and the feeling of liberation from the dancing people
recognized as a “key point of Matisse’s career and development of modern painting

This is an example of a Fauvist style of painting that Matisse became famous for
The Open Window is a theme that keeps recurring throughout his long career

Originally called Harmony in Blue, was not satisfied with blue because it did not provide sufficient contrast with green seen through the open window
