Choose 1 prompt and write. 1. If you and your best friend could have a free limo for 24 hours, where would you go and what would you do? 2. Do you believe in love at first sight?
4
Examine the leads in your given story. o Underline or highlight the 5Ws and H. Evaluate the lead o What type of lead does the story utilize Question, Quote, Summary, Fact, Opinion o Is the lead effective Why/Why not If yes, why is it effective If not, why is it not
5
Make a chart with 6 columns. Label the columns as follows: o History; People; Numbers (money/statistics); Comparisons; The Future; Trends Examine each photo quickly but carefully. List as many story ideas as possible under each column. Share.
11
Think about a typical school year. Brainstorm routine stories covered throughout the year. o Examples: Homecoming, Sports, Etc. Using the same angle list, list 2 new angles for each topic. Explain how you would develop the story (what sources would you try to use, etc.) o History; People; Numbers (money/statistics); Comparisons; The Future; Trends
12
Take one topic (with a unique angle) and write a story (no word limit-but it does need to cover all the information). Be creative. Have fun! Those of you who have not turned in your 1 st story (classmate’s experience at a landmark) need to complete and turn in today!!!
