4  Different from Key Stage 3  Increased demands on pupil time  Increased responsibility  Increased issues with homework, revision, coursework Life in Key Stage 4

5  Link between good attendance and high achievement is well proven  One half day’s absence per week results in a pupil attaining only a 90% attendance  Equates to the pupil having missed four whole weeks of lessons in the school year  Over five years this would total half of a school year Attendance

7  Some subjects will do coursework / assignments during Year 10  Some work will need to be completed at home  Pupils will be closely monitored if they do not meet deadlines or fall behind  Pupils need a disciplined approach Coursework / Assignments / Controlled Assessments

8  Encourage students to read a greater range of high quality, challenging literature  Reading and writing will be equally weighted  Greater focus on making sure that students are able to write clearly and accurately, in good Standard English  Increased emphasis on spelling, punctuation and grammar including the use of vocabulary  Tiers will be removed GCSE English Language (Ofqual)

9  Encourage students to read a wide range of classic literature fluently with the assessment of …..  Tiers will be removed  Increased assessment of unseen texts  Quality of writing in the response to texts will be assessed GCSE English Literature (Ofqual)

10  More demanding with additional content and greater assessment  More focus on making sure that every student masters the fundamentals of maths.  More emphasis on reasoning and problem solving  Tiering structure will remain the same, with an overlap between the tiers at grades 4 and 5. GCSE Maths (Ofqual)

11  Same proportion of students will achieve a grade 4 and above as currently achieve a grade C and above  Same proportion of students will achieve a grade 7 and above as currently achieve an A and above  Top 20% of those who get grade 7 or above will get a grade 9  The bottom of grade 1 will be aligned with the bottom of grade G  Grade 5 will be positioned in the top third of the marks for a current Grade C and bottom third of the marks for a current Grade B  Greater demand than the present grade C 1-9 Grading System (Ofqual)
