trifle (tri-fle): something of little or no value or importance (pg. 571) She worked very hard all day, but was only given a trifle for her efforts. ebony (eb-o-ny): a dark, black color (pg. 572) Mom bought an ebony frame for the picture. balustrade (bal-us-trade): a row of balusters and the handrail they support, as on a staircase. (pg. 574) The balustrade was painted white on the new staircase. molten (mol-ten): melted or kept in a liquid state by heat. (pg. 575) The molten lava flowed down the volcano. Mealy (meal-y): like meal; dry and grainy (pg. 576) The mealy pie crust tasted bad.
