2  In 1998, CDC established the National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (NCCCP), which provided seed money and technical support for the development and implementation of CCC plans.  In 1998 there were 6 programs. Currently there are 65.

3  To measurably reduce the burden of cancer by implementing a collaborative statewide plan driven by data, science, capacity and outcomes.

9 East and West Regions Partners: East Regional Coalition, Jackson Regional Coalition, ACS, Shelby County School System, Jackson Educational System, TC2 State Office. State Plan Goal: Skin Cancer & Melanoma p.50 Objective 1 Evaluation: Pre and Post Survey – Immediate, 3 month and 6 month

10 Based upon data received from the TN Cancer Registry, it was noted that an area in the West had a Melanoma rate 59% above the expected value. This information was shared with the regional coalition which decided this was an area they wanted to focus on. They requested assistance with program development.

11 East Region had an established skin cancer and melanoma committee which was reporting successful interventions with their programs. These two regions were connected to share concerns and possible interventions to reduce the percentage of Melanoma in the West region.

12 At the present time they have collaborated on two specific programs and target groups 1) Sororities 2) The middle/high schools Sun safety is encouraged and information regarding tanning beds is provided. The younger students make UV bracelets. These are currently being implemented.
